'1~~ <br />!1!1~~~.~n ` <br />Community and Economic Development Committee <br />2009 South Bend Common Council <br />The June 22, 2009 meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee of <br />the South Bend Common Council was called to order by its Chairperson Council <br />Member Timothy A. Rouse at 4:05 p.m. in the Council's Informal Meeting Room. <br />Persons in attendance included Council Members Henry Davis; Puzzello; White; <br />LaFountain; Varner; Kirsits; Dieter <br />Others present: Mayor Luecke; Catherine Fanello; George Lane; Martha Lewis; Ann <br />Kolata; Don Inks <br />AGENDA: BILL N0.40-09 -Appropriation Fund #209 Studebaker <br />. BILL NO. 09-48 -Abatement Waggoner Farms/Ontario Building <br />Bill No. 40-09 is an appropriation of $578,644.00 for the continued remediation and <br />revitalization of the Studebaker/Oliver Brownfield sites. City Controller Catherine <br />Fanello was recognized to make the presentation. She explained of the total $400,000 <br />came from the EPA grant received for that purpose. The remaining $178,000+ <br />represented repayments of loans from other funds to the Brownfield Fund. Ann Kolata <br />further explained grant process and restricted purpose of the fund. Chairperson Rouse <br />accepted a motion from Karen White and a second from Councilmember Puzzello to send <br />to Council favorably. All agreed. <br />Bill No. 09-48 was asked to be continued until the July 13 meeting of the Council at the <br />petitioner's request. Councilmember White made a motion, Councilmember Puzzello <br />seconded and all agreed to continue the bill until July 13, 2009. <br />Under miscellaneous Vice-Chair Henry Davis asked the Council's representatives on the <br />Century Center Board of Managers to give a progress report. Both Andrew Nemeth and <br />Dennis Andres updated the Council. Nemeth reported that the Century Center restroom <br />renovations were complete. Exhibition Hall "C" was scheduled for renovation next to be <br />followed by a freshening of halls "A" and "B". Dennis Andres said, with Nemeth <br />agreeing, that the Board of Managers should meet monthly rather than the current <br />practice of meeting quarterly. This request was under consideration by the Board. <br />Councilmember Henry Davis asked that the Community and Economic Development <br />Department give an update on their departments' activities at the next meeting. <br />
