SUBSTITUTE BILLGNO. 13-98 <br />ORDINANCE NO. ~D ~~ <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCII. OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA, AMENDING ORDINANCE N0.8808-97 ADDRESSING THE ANNUAL <br />PAY AND MONETARY FRINGE BENEFITS FOR MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH <br />BEND POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR CALENDAR YEARS 1998, 1999, 2000 AND <br />STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br />On July 28, 1997, the South Bend Common Council passed Ordinance No. 8808- <br />97 which fixed and established the annual pay and monetary fringe benefits of sworn <br />members and officers of the South Bend Police Department for the calendar years 1998 <br />through 2001. <br />Since the passage of the Police Department salary ordinance in 1997, the South <br />Bend Police Department is now ready to undertake a reorganization of its Investigative <br />Division in a continuing effort to attract qualified individuals and address pay inequities <br />which have arisen over the years. The reorganization involved establishing different levels <br />for Corporals, based on experience and expertise. <br />1~obo, ~~~r~tor~, b~ it orba~iri~~ b~ i~~ ~ommott ~outti~il o£ ~~ ~it~ o~ <br />~iotttrj ~B~tt~', ~lttibi~tt~, as follows: <br />i n I. Ordinance No. 8808-97 is hereby amended by the inclusion of new <br />paragraph S, which shall read in its entirety as follows: <br />S. Detective Classification Pay. <br />i. Sworn members holding the rank of Corporal and assigned to the <br />Investigative Division of the Police Department on a full time basis who are qualified shall <br />be entitled to receive the following additional pay: <br />Investigator Level 1998 1999 2000 2001 <br /> <br />Level III $2,163 $2,163 $ 2,163 $ 2,163 <br />LevelII $ 900 $ 900 $ 900 $ 900 <br />Said pay amounts shall be retroactive and become effective January 1, 1998, with said pays <br />being paid on a divisible amount which is paid on a bi-weekly basis. Said amount shall <br />be prorated in any year a qualifying Corporal retires, resigns, or otherwise leaves <br />employment. <br />Corporals shall receive pay for only the highest level for which they have qualified. <br />ii. Sworn members hold the rank of Sergeant and assigned to the <br />Investigative Division of the Police Department on a full time basis on January 1, 1998 <br />shall be entitled to receive the following additional pay: <br />Investieator Level 1998 1999 2000 2001 <br />Level III $ 663 $ 663 $ 663 $ 633 <br />
