ORDINANCE NO. ~0'~ 1 " ` <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, AMENDING CERTAIN MONETARY FRINGE BENEFITS <br />FOR FIREFIGHTERS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND DURING THE <br />CALENDAR YEARS OF 1998, 1999 AND 2000. <br />Statement of Puroose and Intent <br />In 1996, the South Bend Common Council passed certain ordinances fixing the <br />annual pay and monetary fringe benefits of Firefighters of the South Bend Fire Department <br />for the calendar years 1997 through 2000. <br />Since the passage of the Fire Department Salary Ordinance of 1996 the South <br />Bend Fire Department has determined it to be beneficial to have a position for a full time <br />instructor on the Department. The South Bend Fire Department is further exploring the <br />possibility of creating a position of Firefighter Recruit forthose individuals who are in there <br />conducting their initial training, but have not yet been sworn in as members of the Fire <br />Department. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows: <br />Section I. Full Time Instructor and Firefighter Recruit PaX <br />Paragraph (a) of Section II of Ordinance No. 8696-96 shall be amended by adding <br />the following classifications: <br />Salary Classifications 1997 1998 1999 2000 <br />Full Time Instructor 0 $32.000 $33.300 $35.015 <br />Firefighter Recruit 0 $23,000 $24,250 $25,500 <br />Section II. Amendment to Special Response Team Paw Paragraph (b) of Section III of <br />Ordinance 8696-96 shall be amended by adding the following classification: <br />S ecialty Response Teams 1997 1998 1999 2000 <br />Team Leaders 0 $400.00 $400.00 $400.00 <br />Section III. Amendment to Instructors Paw Paragraph (c) of Section IV of Ordinance <br />8696-96 shall be amended to read as follows: <br />"Instructors: Shift instructors qualified and selected to teach on-duty <br />in-house instruction programs for rookie schools, driving,confined <br />space rescue, rope techniques, water safety, watercraft techniques, CPR, <br />and other authorized departmental instruction, shall be paid at the rate <br />of $10.00 per hour up to a $1,500.00 maximum with any. teaching <br />thereafter requiring the approval of the Fire Chief. Other instructors <br />qualified and selected to teach on-duty in-house instruction programs <br />for rookie schools, driving, confined space rescue, rope techniques, <br />water safety, watercraft techniques, CPR, and other authorized <br />departmental instruction, may be paid at the rate of $10.00 per hour, <br />upon the approval of the Fire Chief. Said hourly rate shall be paid over <br />and above the individual's salary classification and shall be paid <br />consistent withthe applicable regulations of the State Board of Accounts. <br />A~ull Time Instructor shall be ineligible for any pay under this subsection." <br />Section IV. Effective Date.
