BILL NO. l~ -98 <br />ORDINANCE NO. 0 l ~~- ~ U <br />A ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />AMENDING CHAPTER 20, ARTICLE 6, SECTION 20-72 ENTITLED "METHOD OF PARKING; <br />PARALLEL AND ANGLE PARKING" OF THE <br />SOUTH BEND MUNICIPAL CODE <br />STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br />The Indiana State Legislature enacted Public Law 60-1998 which became effective on July 1, <br />1998. Section 1 of that Public Law addressed parallel parking requirements and created an exception <br />for motorcycles. <br />The codified version of this new state law is located at Indiana Code § 9-21-16-7, Q b. <br />This ordinance would amend the South Bend Municipal Code by creating an exception to the <br />local parking regulations by creating an exception for motorcycles from the current method of parking. <br />Such an amendment would bring the local regulations in compliance with the new state law, which is <br />deemed to be in the best interest of the public. <br />~iobo, tXj>rr~~or~, b>r it or~a~itt>r~ b~ t~~ ~ommotY ~ouri>riY o~ ~~ ~it~ o~ ~out~ <br />~B~tC~, ~tt~i~tt~, as follows: <br />SECTION I. Chapter 20, Article 6,Section 20-72 of the South Bend Municipal Code is amended to <br />read in its entirety as follows: <br />Sec. 20-72. Method of Parking; Parallel and Single Parking-Exception for <br />Motorc,, cam. <br />~a,L, No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle other than parallel to the curb and not more <br />than twelve (12) inches therefrom except where otherwise indicated by this chapter or where the street <br />is marked for a different method of parking. <br />SECTION II.
