<br /> <br />(127 Franklin Place) <br />HISTORICAL CONTEXT. <br />This property is located on the west side of Franklin Place, North of West. <br />Jefferson Street,-South Bend, Indiana. The property is described as lot 7 of <br />Vails Subdivision Block 1. ' <br />. John E. Fisher, one of South Berids earliest attorney's, sold lot 7 of Vails <br />Subdivision, block 1, to George V. Glover in 1887. Constructing on the house <br />that is presently on the site 'began in. 1888._ <br />.George V. Glover was a. .pioneer of .South Bend,- he came to this area from <br />Minnesota ,in 1856 where he had been a farmer.-Upon his arrival Mr. Glover <br />engaged in farming, this. continued until 1860 when he became the- Deputy <br />..Sheriff of St. Joseph County,. under Sheriff Soloman W. Palmer. He served as <br />Deputy until 1868 when he was elected .Sheriff. Mr. Glover held this office <br />from 1868 to 1872, after which he became a cashier for the Birdsell <br />Manufacturing Company. He retired from Birdsell in the 1$80s at which time he <br />.moved his family. into their newly constructed house located at 127 Franklin <br />Place. Mr. Glover resided. there until his death in 1913. -The house was <br />inherited by his wife,-Ella, who continued to live in the house until 1919. <br />when she sold it to Abraham I. Eder, and moved to yiichigan to live with her <br />niece. <br /> <br />Abraham I. Eder was the ,president of the City Window Cleaning. Company. He and <br />his wife,. Sadie, resided. in the house until the mid 1940s, when his son, <br />Samson Eder moved in..Abraham Eder officially sold the house to his sori in <br />1948. Samson Eder was the president of the South Bend Window Cleaning Company, ~ ' <br />taking over when his father retired. He eventually left this position to <br />become the chairman for Acme Services Corporation. Abraham Eder lived there <br />with his wife, Beatrice Washun Eder, until 1952 when .he sold the house to the <br />current owner Mrs. Vera Reaves Yeager. Mrs. Yeager, lived in bhio and used the <br />property as a rental. In 1991 she transferred the ownership of the property <br />into .the Yeager.. Family Trust, which is controlled by her daughter, i~iarilyn <br />Proctor. <br />ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION <br />The house is a two story irregular Ell shape., with a brick foundation and a <br />cross gable clipped -roof that is covered in asphalt shingles. The walls are <br />framed in wood and covered with asphalt shingle siding. The house has one <br />over one double hung and 12 over 12 double hung .windows. Both the windows and <br />the .front entrance door have molded entablatures. The front porch is a full <br />length wrap around with wood balustrades and doric columns set on brick piers. <br />In 1948 a one and a half story shed addition was added to the right front of <br />the house. <br />
