PUBLIC WORKS AND PROPERTY VACATION COMMITTEE <br />MAY 11, 2009 <br />Committee Members Present: David Varner, Chairperson; Henry Davis; <br />Other Council Members Present: Karen White; Derek Dieter; <br />Others Present: Gary Gilot, Mike Danch, Bill Schalliol, Kathleen Cekanski <br />Farrand; Rita Kopala; Martha Lewis; Steve Mihaljevic; <br />Christa Nayder <br />Agenda: Bill No. 22-09 -Vacation Franklin Street <br />Bill No. 30-09 - Alley S of Washington and Franklin <br />Bill No. 27-09 -Low Voltage Permit Fees <br />Bill No. 22-09 -Vacate portions of Franklin and Broadway between Indiana and Stull <br />Though not having a quorum and therefore unable to take official action. Chairman Varner asked <br />for a presentation. Mike Danch representing his client, the City of South Bend, explained the <br />vacations were requested to allow the City to assemble properties for the proposed Ignition Park, <br />an economic development Brownfield development. This particular vacation would allow Transpo <br />to re-locate a sight for construction of a terminal and offices. There were no questions. No <br />actions allowed. <br />Bill No. 30-09 -Alley Vacation -Portion west of Franklin between Washington and Jefferson <br />The petitioner, Steve Mihaljevic, at the chair's request made the presentation. He explained that <br />for safety concerns of tenants whose doors open onto the alley, he requests a vacation which he <br />would then fence from property to the north. All adjacent owners were notified without <br />subsequent comment. The Board of Public Works has sent a favorable recommendation. All <br />required city departments concurred. No action by the committee could be taken. <br />Bill No. 27-09 -Request to issue Low Voltage Permits <br />This bill generated by the city's legal department for the building department was continued until <br />May 26, 2009 at the city's request. <br />There being no further business to come before the Committee, Chairperson Varner adjourned <br />the meeting at 3:22 p.m. <br />Respectfully Submitted, <br />~~~~ <br />David Varner, Chairperson <br />Public Works and Property Vacation Committee <br />
