DERosE
CHIEF ASSISTANT CITYATTORNEY
Re: An Ordinance Creating a New Police Take Home Vehicle Fund
Dear President Dieter:
Attached for Council consideration is an ordinance to establish a separate fund to receive
monies paid by police officers who participate in the South Bend Police Department Take Home
Vehicle Program to cover personal injury and property damage claim costs arising from off-duty
use of City owned vehicles.
Receipts and expenses for this Program have been part of Fund 226 which covers the
City general self-insurance program. Because their have been several inquiries about the uses of
monies related to the Program, the administration believes that use of a separate fund for the
Program would assist with transparency and accountability.
We do not yet have a fund number assigned for the new fund nor an amount to transfer.
Therefore, we will submit a substitute ordinance with this information before Second Reading.
Your favorable consideration is requested.
Catherine Fanello or I will make the presentation to the appropriate Common Council
committee and at the regular Common Council meeting.
Sincerely,
C `~
cc: Catherine Fanello
Charles S.
