MARCH 23, 2009
ACATfON COMM
Committee Members Present: David Varner, Chairperson; Tom LaFountain, Vice-
Chairperson; Timothy Rouse; Henry Davis
Other Council Members Present: Karen White; Ann Puzzello; Derek Dieter;
Others Present: Rita Kopala; Jamie Loo; Jeremy Toschlog;
Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand; Martha Lewis;
Mayor Luecke; Tom Price;
Agenda: Update -Economic Stimulus -Gary Gilot (see handout)
Chairperson Varner scheduled this committee meeting to allow Gary Gilot, Director of Public
Works the opportunity to update the Council on economic stimulus funding for water, sewer and
road infrastructure. Gary explained the stimulus funding process with the help of a nine page
handout (see attachment.) As far as road projects go, "shovel ready" projects approved by the
MACOG policy board in their TIP (Transportation Improvement Plan) can qualify. Work on an
approved project list will begin in 2009 carrying over in some cases through 2010. Regarding
water and sewers, the city has a $19 million master plan ready to go. Every attempt to leverage
federal stimulus dollars to subsidize this plan are in the works. The city appears to be in a good
position to take advantage of the stimulus dollars because of work already done i.e. CSO project.
Councilmember's asked several questions regarding specific street repair projects and suggested
improvements to the current yard waste pick-up efforts. Gary took these suggestions under
advisement.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, Chairperson Varner adjourned
the meeting at 4:25 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
~'
David Varner, Chairperson
Public Works and Property Vacation Committee
