Mayor Luecke introduced Chris Dressel, Community and Economic Development <br />Department and Larry Magliozzi, Area Plan Commission, to outline efforts to date. Speaking first, <br />Chris Dressel described the complete count committee (see attachment) and said work had <br />begun in earnest at the beginning of the year. 2009 will set the ground work for actual collection <br />of data in 2010. Hopefully this preparation should increase the 2010 census response rate abot <br />the 2000 rate of 69%. Councilmember Oliver Davis asked what is being done to improve the <br />count. Dressel indicated better technology as well as outreach to specific groups. Dieter asked <br />how counts were verified. Magliozzi said the postal service address lists are used by the Census <br />Bureau to do the count. Mayor Luecke interjected that all are being encouraged to participate, <br />the short-form will be used universally, and all data will be confidential. Councilmember's Oliver <br />Davis, Puzzello, and Rouse all emphasized the need for outreach. Councilmember Oliver Davis <br />made a motion, seconded by Councilmember White, and approved by all to send this bill to the <br />full Council favorably. <br />BILL NO. 09-23 <br />Winona Hays, from the City Clerk's Office who has taken over the application/compliance process <br />reported two businesses had applied for and met the requirements to receive a scrap metal/junk <br />dealers license pending Council approval. Councilmember Henry Davis asked if either applicants <br />business was used for city impounds. The answer was no. Councilmember White motioned, <br />seconded by Councilmember Oliver Davis, and agreed by all to send this bill to the full Council <br />favorably. <br />
