REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 23, 2009 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR <br /> <br />COMMENTS REGARDING SCHOOL CROSSING GUARDS <br />Sandy Dreibelbeis, 209 E. Eckman, South Bend, Indiana, spoke regarding the crossing <br />guards. Ms. Dreibelbeis questioned how long the crossing guards would be employed <br />until the end of the 08/09 school year or calendar year? <br /> <br />Councilmember White stated that the crossing guards would be employed until the end of <br />the 08/09 school year. <br /> <br />COMMENTS REGARDING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN SOUTH BEND <br />Jerry Niezgodski, 2930 Bonds Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, stated that Economic <br />Director Jeff Gibney showed on a pie chart that the City will need to cut the Police <br />Department by 50%. Mr. Niezgodski stated that doesn’t need to happen, the City of <br />South Bend needs to increase its tax base. The only way to do that is by getting jobs to <br />South Bend. He urged Mr. Gibney to do just that. Mr. Niezgodski also stated that he <br />would like to see a change in the tax abatement ordinance to allow for an incentive for <br />rehabbing homes in the inner city. <br /> <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT <br /> <br />There being no further business to come before the President Derek D.
