Airport Economic Development Area <br />(1) Discussion of New Tech High School. <br />environment. <br />Ms. Jones asked Rev. Rouse if he was asking <br />the Commission to wait on its decision. Rev. <br />Rouse said that he was. <br />Mr. Varner tried to give a quick TIF lesson. <br />All of the taxes from new development in <br />TIF districts stays in TIF districts. TIF <br />districts get unbalanced and the city doesn't <br />get the money it needs to run the city. We <br />have to find a way to creatively use TIF <br />wisely. <br />Ms. Puzzello said she is not in favor of <br />rushing to commit TIF funds for this project <br />before the Common Council weighs its <br />priorities for spending its limited resources. <br />She asked the Commission to continue this <br />item. <br />Ms. Jones noted that as a Council <br />appointment to the Redevelopment <br />Commission, she feels a responsibility to <br />strongly consider the Council's wishes when <br />she votes on an item it has such a strong <br />opinion on. She is very interested in <br />education. Education gives you economic <br />freedom which allows you to live where you <br />want to live, work where you want to work, <br />and be what you want to be. Economic <br />opportunity doesn't happen without quality <br />education. That is the core of her belief <br />system. When the Commission expanded the <br />AEDA to include LaSalle Square and the <br />Hurwich/Marycrest area, it made a <br />28 <br />
