ORDINANCE NO. I <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, SETTING THE ANNUAL SALARIES <br />FOR THE MAYOR AND FOR THE CITY CLERK FOR <br />CALENDAR YEAR 2000 <br />STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br />Pursuant to Indiana Code § 36-4-7-2, the City's legislative body is required to fix the annual <br />compensation of all elected officers. Such compensation may "not be changed in the year for which <br />it is fixed, nor may it be reduced below the amount fixed for the previous year". <br />The following Ordinance establishes the annual compensation for Mayor ofthe City of South <br />Bend and for the South Bend City Clerk for calendar year 2000. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, as follows: <br />Section I. The annual compensation for the Mayor of the City of South Bend in calendar <br />year 2000 shall be and hereby is established at $75,123.00. <br />Section II. The annual compensation for the South Bend City Clerk in calendar year 2000 <br />shall be and hereby is established at $40,695.00. <br />Section III. If any one or more of the provisions contained in this ordinance shall for any <br />reason be held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable in any respect, such invalidity, illegality or <br />unenforceability shall not affect any other provision hereof, and this ordinance shall be construed <br />as if such invalid, illegal or unenforceable provision was not contained therein. <br />Section IV.
