Jefferson Blvd. 4`~ Floor County City Building South Bend, IN 46601 Re: Complete Count Committee -Census 2010 Dear Mr. Dieter: As you may be aware, the next decennial census, Census 2010, is a year away. As a part of the Census Bureau's effort to ensure as complete count as possible, Complete Count Committees are encourage to be formed. The Committees are a group of citizens charged with assisting the Census Bureau with community-specific strategies that would educate, motivate and inspire alt residents to fill out their Census forms. A Complete Count Committee has been formed, and has been diligently working on developing strategies since December of 2008. The Committee consists of citizens from throughout the County. This ensures that all jurisdictions understand the importance of having their residents counted, and participate in the strategies to make that happen to the fullest extent possible. The Census Bureau also encourages that jurisdictions pass either a resolution or an agreement showing support for the Census 2010 effort. The attached resolution proclaims support and participation in the Decennial Census 2010 by the South Bend Common Council. I have attached a Complete Count Committee Member List, a Complete Count Committee structure chart, acid a list of the Response Rates from the 2000 Census. The response rates show more than anything else that a successful Census 2010 is important to everyone in St. Joseph County. I will be available at the Common Council meeting, but ifyou would like a more detailed report on the status of the Complete Count Committee and the strategies being developed, please don't hesitate to call me.
