RESOLUTION NO. 1' 1-/ -g A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, DEMONSTRATING OUR SOLIDARITY WITH THE POLISH PEOPLE WHEREAS, on December 13, 1981, marital law was imposed in Poland thereby suspending the people' s basic civil rights, and established curfews and other civil restraints; and WHEREAS , the Polish military cracked down on the independent trade union movement Solidarity,&were authorized to use "coercion to restore calm, law-and-order"; and WHEREAS, the internal struggles within Poland for basic freedoms show the strength and courage of a proud, hard-working people who continue to exert passive resistance during these troubled times. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: SECTION I . The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, express their deep concern and hope that the imposition of martial law in Poland will soon be lifted. SECTION II . The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, hope that all people regardless of their heritage will join in a humanitarian effort to aid the people of Poland. SECTION II.I . The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, on behalf of all of its citizens, join in with the millions of other people throughout the world in hoping that "Peace with Dignity" will soon be restored in Poland.
