RESOLUTION NO. 'fa-Q - gra <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE <br /> CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING <br /> DR. JAMES E. BOWES OF THE ST. JOSEPH COUNTY <br /> HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND OTHER CONCERNED <br /> INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS FOR THEIR EFFORTS <br /> IN THE 1982 ANIT-MOSQUITO CAMPAIGN FOR THE CITY <br /> OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br /> WHEREAS , Dr . James E. Bowes , Health Officer , of the St . Joseph <br /> County Health Department, overseed the 1982 Anti-Mosquito Campaign <br /> for the City of South Bend; and <br /> WHEREAS , the two-day tire pickup program held March 26th and <br /> 27th was designed to eliminate old tires which have been shown to <br /> be potential breeding areas for mosquitoes and other insects by the <br /> studies conducted by Professor George Craig of the University of <br /> Notre Dame; and <br /> WHEREAS, within this two-day period 3, 725 tires were collected <br /> at four sites throughout the City which were each manned by two <br /> St . Joseph County Health Department employees ;and <br /> WHEREAS , Baker Rubber, Inc . donated four trucks to assist in <br /> this operation by collecting and disposing of the tires ;and <br /> WHEREAS , McDonald' s Inc . donated over 3, 000 coupons for free <br /> "big mac"sandwiches for individuals turning in three or more tires ; and <br /> WHEREAS , through the cooperation of all of these individuals and <br /> organizations the 1982 Anti-Mosquito Campaign for the City of South <br /> Bend was a huge success . <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the <br /> City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows : <br /> SECTION I. <br /> The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana commends <br /> Dr . James E . Bowes and all of the members of the staff of the St . <br /> Joseph County Health Department who participated in the successful <br /> Anti-Mosquito Campaign for the City. <br /> SECTION II. <br /> The Common Council commends Baker Rubber, Inc . and McDonald' s Inc. <br /> for their generous donations to this program, which the Council <br /> believes are a fine example of private corporations working with the <br /> goverment to improve the public health and safety of our community. <br /> SECTION III. <br /> The Common Council directs the City Clerk to send a copy of <br /> this Resolution to the named individuals and corporations as the <br /> Council ' s way of saying "Thanks for a job well done" . <br /> SECTION IV. <br /> This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after <br /> its adoption by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor . <br /> FILED IN CLERK'S ovnc ;1 . .` _ 4,‘ . .I ' <br /> M- 'Ir-r of t e Colon Council <br /> PRESENTED 9-R` -g'4 APR 211982 <br /> NOT APPROVED Irene Gammon <br /> ADOPTED 3/4-Q6-t CITY CLERK,SOUTH BEND,IND, <br />
