REGULAR MEETING NOVEMBER 25,2013 <br /> Whereas, Charles Butler made this rescue without any protective fire gear and was miraculously <br /> able to rescue the resident, with neither sustaining any serious personal injuries. <br /> Now, Therefore,be it resolved,by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as <br /> follows: <br /> Section I. On behalf of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council is <br /> pleased to publicly commend, honor and congratulate CHARLES BUTLER from the City of <br /> Mishawaka for his selfless acts of heroism in rescuing a resident of South Bend from his burning <br /> home on October 15, 2013. <br /> Section II. The Common Council sincerely thanks CHARLES BUTLER for his split section <br /> decision to accept the risk and quietly and without fanfare save a person's life, before the <br /> screaming sirens sounded; for which all of us are forever grateful. <br /> Section III. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption by the <br /> Council and approval by the Mayor. <br /> s/Tim Scott, 1st District s/Oliver J. She made the presentation for this Resolution by reading it in its entirety and <br /> presenting it to Mr. Butler. <br /> Mr. Butler thanked the Council for this honor. He stated that he did not think about being a hero, <br /> it was just the right thing to do. <br /> A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time. <br /> Fire Chief Steve Cox, 1222 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, Indiana, on behalf of the South <br /> Bend Fire Department, I would also like to commend Mr. Butler for his selfless actions. Often <br /> times in this day and age we hear about people not acting or standing by and watching things go <br /> down. That was not the case in this situation this gentleman saw a life-threatening situation <br /> didn't think twice about his own personal safety just jumped in and because of that a gentleman <br /> is alive today. I would like to commend Mr. Butler. <br /> Councilmember Dr. David Varner made a motion to adopt this Resolution by acclamation. <br /> Councilmember White seconded the motion which carried. <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 4297-13 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL <br /> OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br /> HONORING THE JUNIOR PEEWEE <br /> CHEERLEADING SQUAD FOR WINNING THE <br /> REGIONAL CHEER AND DANCE <br /> CHAMPIONSHIP AND ENCOURAGING THEM <br /> TO DO THEIR BEST AT THE NATIONAL <br /> CHEER AND DANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS AT <br /> THE ESPN WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS <br /> COMPLEX IN KISSIMMEE FLORIDA <br /> DECEMBER 7— 14, 2013 <br /> Whereas, the South Bend Common Council notes that Pop Warner Spirit Program has provided <br /> an opportunity since the 1970's for over 180,000 children to participate in Pop Warner <br /> cheerleading and dance around the world, where new friendships are made and character is <br /> developed while having fun in days filled with cheering and dance; and <br /> 2 <br />
