RESOLUTION NO. 3 7 2 2- 0 7 I A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, PUBLICLY COMMENDING JOHN ADAMS HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL TEAM FOR WINNING THEIR 7"; STRAIGHT MOCK TRIAL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ~fi~eaa, the Indiana High School Mock Trial program is aimed to "stimulate and encourage a deeper understanding and appreciation of the American legal system by providing an opportunity for students to learn about the judicial system through ahands-on experience"; and ~1~eaa, through mock trials, high school students gain an understanding of society's approach to dispute resolution and justice through an experiential learning opportunity where they can acquire skills in critical thinking and reasoning, oral advocacy, team work and citizenship involving a hypothetical case where mock trial team members compete in actual courtrooms and display their knowledge; and ~~eaa, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is proud to recognize that twenty-four (24) high schools from throughout the State of Indiana recently competed in the Indiana High School Mock Trial State competitions; and that the John Adams High School Mock Trial Team who won the Mock Trial State Championship, making this the 7t" consecutive yeaz in which a John Adams team were victorious as Indiana State Champions; and ~l~eaa, the Council would especially like to publicly recognize that the John Adams High School Mock Trial Program is organized and sponsored by Judith Overmyer, a teacher at John Adams; the local attorneys who serve as Mock Trial coaches and volunteer countless hours of their time and talents in preparing the MOCK TRIAL STATE CHAMPIONS for the State of Indiana, the Adams Mock Trial Renegades Team, whose members include: Claire Alvis Laura Jones Adam Rector Ethan Jason Michael Smyth Katherin Yugo ~oc~, ~l~ex~axe, lse ctxeao~vec` by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council hereby congratulates each and every member of the 2006-2007 John Adams High School Mock Trial Team, their program's organizer and sponsor, Judith Overmyer, and their coaches for winning their 7th straight Mock Trial State Championship, making this Renegade Team the best in the state! Section II. The South Bend Common Council believes that the hard-work, discipline, and dedication of the students on the John Adams High School Mock Trial Team has enabled each of these students to be excellent role models for all students throughout our country; and each team member has brought the highest of honors to themselves, their family and friends, John Adams High School, the South Bend Community School Corporation and all of the residents of the City of South Bend, Indiana. Section III . The Common Council wishes the John Adams High School Mock Trial Team the very best as they represent the State of Indiana at the National High School Mock Trial Championship in Dallas, Texas on May 10-12, 2007.
