'~~~~ <br />~~~~~ <br />Community and Economic Development Committee <br />2009 South Bend Common Council <br />The January 26, 2009 meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee of the South <br />Bend Common Council was called to order by its Chairperson Council Member Timothy A. Rouse at <br />3:43 p.m. in the Council's Informal Meeting Room. <br />Persons in attendance included Council Members Dieter, Varner, Henry Davis, Jr., White, LaFountain, <br />Rouse, Kirsits, and Puzzello; Mayor Stephen J. Luecke, Public Works Director Gary Gilot, City <br />Controller M. Catherine Fanello, Joseph Queenan, Mrs. Kopola, Martha Lewis, Robert Matia, Jamie <br />Loo of the South Bend Tribune and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. <br />Council Member Rouse noted that the Committee members include Council Members Henry Davis, <br />Jr., Karen L. White, Ann Puzzello and himself, as Chairperson. <br />Bill No. 09-12 5-Year Residential Real Property Tax Abatement Request for 912 N. St. Peter <br />Council Member Rouse called for a report from Economic Development on the proposed request. <br />Bob Matia, Economic Development Assistant Director, reviewed his multi-page report of January 6, <br />2009 (copy attached). He noted that the petitioners, Joseph and Carolyn Queenan, propose to <br />construct asingle-family home at 912 North St. Peter Street. It will be part of the Notre Dame Avenue <br />Housing Program. Estimated cost of the 3-bedroom 3-bath home is $345,000. Total taxes abated over <br />the 5-year period are estimated at $2,336 with total taxes to be paid during this period are estimated at <br />$17,736. Mr. Mathia concluded his remarks by stating that the petitioners meet the qualifications for a <br />five (5) year residential tax abatement under Section 2-77.1 of the South Bend Municipal Code <br />addressing "Single Family Residential Construction". <br />Mr. Joseph Queenan was present and available for questions. <br />There was no one from the public to speak in favor or in opposition to the Bill. <br />Council Member White made a motion, seconded by Council Member Puzzello that Bill No. 09-12 be <br />recommended favorably to Council.
