RESOLUTION NO. 1016-83 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br /> OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, COMMEMORATING THE MANY <br /> CONTRIBUTIONS MADE TO OUR COMMUNITY BY THE LATE <br /> HERBERT G. BUTLER, DIRECTOR OF THE SOUTH BEND <br /> SYMPHONY <br /> WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br /> Indiana, notes with extreme sadness the passing of Herbert G. <br /> Butler, the Director of the South Bend Symphony; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Council recognizes with pride the years of <br /> 1975 through 1983 when the South Bend Symphony Orchestra was <br /> conducted by Herbert G. Butler, and established a Pops Series <br /> and a Family Concert Series; and <br /> WHEREAS, the impact of Herbert G. Butler on the cultural <br /> life of this Community and his many contributions will be long <br /> remembered; and <br /> WHEREAS, the legacy of this truly professional musician <br /> and conductor will live on in not only the members of the South <br /> Bend Symphony members but also through the many thousands of <br /> persons who were touched by his musical talent and leadership. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of <br /> the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows : <br /> SECTION I . On behalf of the citizens of South Bend, <br /> Indiana, the Common Council hereby publicly commemorates the <br /> late Herbert G. Butler for a life of dedicated service and <br /> contributions to the cultural life of our Community, as the <br /> conductor of the South Bend Symphony. <br /> SECTION II . The Common Council expresses its deepest <br /> sympathy to Mary Butler and her two children, David and Jeffrey, <br /> and the entire Butler family, and hope that the rich and abundant <br /> memories of Herbert G. Butler will help brighten the days ahead. <br /> SECTION III . This Resolution shall be in full force and <br /> effect from and after its adoption by the Common Council and <br /> approval by the Mayor. <br /> Joseph T. Serge <br /> Walter M.
