1 <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 1100-83 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE <br /> CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA COMMENDING <br /> JOHN J. HARRIS, JR. FOR HIS DEDICATED PUBLIC <br /> SERVICE AS A SOUTH BEND COUNCILMAN-AT-LARGE <br /> WHEREAS, the South Bend Common Council notes with pride the <br /> evening of July 15, 1982, when John J. Harris, Jr. won the special <br /> election by Precinct Committeemen to fill a vacated Council seat; and <br /> WHEREAS, the ComJhon .Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana <br /> recognizes that John J. Harris, Jr. has diligently served the citizens <br /> of South Bend as a Councilman-at-Large since his election; and <br /> WHEREAS, Councilman Harris has chaired the Public Safety <br /> Committee of the Common Council and has served on all issues presented <br /> to him; and <br /> WHEREAS, Councilman Harris has established a reputation of <br /> fairness and willingness to listen to persons on all issues presented <br /> to him; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Common Council hopes that Councilman Harris will <br /> continue to stay active in public life and will continue to let his <br /> voice be heard on such important topics as affirmative action. <br /> policies, downtown development, and other civic projects. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City <br /> of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br /> SECTION I. On behalf of the citizens of South Bend, Indiana, the <br /> Common Council hereby publicly commends and thanks Councilman John J. <br /> Harris, Jr. for his dedicated public service as a Councilman-at-Large. <br /> SECTION II. The Common Council publicly acknowledges Councilman <br /> Harris' contributions to help improve the City of South Bend, and <br /> wishes him and his wife of 42 years, Allean, continued good fortune in <br /> the years ahead, and hopes that he will continue to share his special <br /> concern for this community with each of us. <br /> SECTION III.
