RESOLUTION NO. 1103-83 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING THE "DEAN OF THE <br /> COUNCIL" WALTER M. SZYMKOWIAK FOR HIS TWENTY YEARS OF <br /> DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVICE AS SECOND DISTRICT COUNCILMAN <br /> WHEREAS, the South Bend Common Council notes with pride the <br /> twenty (20) years of dedicated and faithful service which Councilman <br /> Walter M. Szymkowiak has given to the citizens of South Bend and in <br /> particular the citizens of the Second District; and <br /> WHEREAS, the South Bend Common Council recognizes that in his <br /> five (5) terms as the Second District Councilman he has served in many <br /> leadership positions, some of which include: Vice President; Chairman <br /> of the Committee of the Whole; Chairman of the Parks and Recreation <br /> Committee; Public Works Committee; Utilities Committee; Vice President <br /> of the South Bend Economic Development Commission; and Board Member of <br /> the South Bend Development Corporation; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Council recognizes many important projects in the <br /> Second District which Councilman Szymkowiak was instrumental in, such <br /> as, several lighting and street improvements, new storm sewers in the <br /> Model Cities Neighborhood, the completion of the West LaSalle, West <br /> Colfax, and West Orange Street connector , the widening of Bendix Drive <br /> and Ardmore Trail , the building of the LaSalle Square Mall , the new <br /> public library at LaSalle Square and his countless hours of service on <br /> behalf of the Save-A-Life Fund; and <br /> WHEREAS, Councilman Szymkowiak's tireless efforts and hard work <br /> are just some of the fine qualities of this dedicated public servant <br /> who has truly earned the title of "Dean of the Council . " <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City <br /> of South Bend,Indiana, as follows: <br /> SECTION I. On behalf of the citizens of South Bend, Indiana, and <br /> in particular the citizens of the Second District, the Common Council <br /> hereby publicly commends Walter M. Szymkowiak for his twenty (20) <br /> years of dedicated public service to our City. <br /> SECTION II. The Common Council publicly acknowledges that <br /> through Councilman Szymkowiak's many contributions he has truly left <br /> an indelible mark on improving the quality of life through our City. <br /> SECTION III. The Common Council wishes Councilman Szymkowiak and <br /> his wife Harriet continued good fortune in the years ahead, and <br /> acknowledges a job well done by saying "Dziekuje" from the bottom of <br /> our hearts. <br /> SECTION IV.
