L J A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA PUBLICLY THANKING RON TEACHMAN FOR SERVING AS THE 61sT POLICE CHIEF OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND G}f ,e, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, recognizes that posted on the South Bend Police Department's website are words in the"Chiefs Message" which read as follows: "A society free from crime, violence and accidental injury remains an unachieved ideal. It is therefore the mission of the South Bend Police Department to seek and find ways to affirmatively promote,preserve and deliver a feeling of security, safety, and productive quality services for all citizens in our community...Working together we are most apt to make lasting improvements in our quality of life"; and G}f ,the Common Council further recognizes that in the"Chief's Message"he states: "We understand that building,cultivating and maintaining the community's trust is a key element in crime reduction in our City...our ultimate goal at the South Bend Police Department is to improve the quality of life for all of our citizens as well as others we serve..."; and Gee, Ron Teachman was appointed as South Bend Police Chief in January 2013, having been a 34- year veteran of the New Bedford Police Department, served as their Chief from 2006 to 2011; served on the Massachusetts Governor's Anti-Crime Council's Sub-Committee on Urban Violence;and was also the first South Bend Police Chief to hold a law degree, having earned his Juris Doctorate Magna Cum Laude in 1994; and Gjfc„,,,y the Council then officially welcomed Chief Teachman when they hosted an event at the Kroc Community Center, where the public greeted and heard the Chief Teachman's vision on public safety. 9roa, rtegora lea raseti .ite cammon js /QI.aa 5 adfilgtob Section I. On behalf of the residents of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council thanks and recognizes Ron Teachman for striving to implement best practices in policing,by launching many new initiatives such as "Operation Ceasefire", the every Thursday morning CAN meetings with all levels of public safety officials serving throughout the St. Joseph County —just to name a few; which have helped foster and provide guidance and leadership in pursuing the Police Department's Mission "To relentlessly seek improvement in the quality of police service provided to the people of South Bend".
