RESOLUTION NO. 1496-87 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING ALL TEACHERS OF THE SOUTH BEND COMMUNITY SCHOOL CORPORATION FOR THE VITAL ROLE THEY PLAY IN PUBLIC EDUCATION AND DESIGNATING MAY 11th THROUGH MAY 15th AS TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK WHEREAS , the South Bend Common Council recognizes that "Teacher Appreciation Day" was observed on Friday , May 8 , 1987 , by the South Bend Community School Corporation ; and WHEREAS , the Common Council enthusiastically joins the School Corporation in the local theme that "Teachers are Number 1 ; " and WHEREAS, the Council recognizes the vital and essential role of the classroom teacher and wishes to publicly designate May 11th through May 15th as "Teacher Appreciation Week" in South Bend , Indiana. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend , Indiana, as follows : SECTION I . On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend , Indiana , the Common Council publicly commends and recognizes the vital and essential role that the teachers of the South Bend Community School Corporation play in educating the youth of our community. SECTION II . In recognition thereof , the Common Council of the City of South Bend hereby designates May 11th through May 15th as "Teacher Appreciation Week" in South Bend , Indiana and proudly proclaims that "South Bend Teachers are Number 1 .
