Resolution No. ( S�12T(? - 9 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, IN SUPPORT OF THE PROPOSAL TO <br />MOVE THE AMTRAK TERMINAL TO THE FORMER UNION STATION <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, enthusiastically supports the proposal to relocate <br />the Amtrak Terminal; and <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council requests the National <br />Railroad Passenger Corporation which operates Amtrak to <br />approve the relocation from 2702 West Washington Avenue; and <br />WHEREAS, the proposed new site being the former Union <br />Station at 326 West South Street is ideally located to be an <br />Amtrak Terminal; and <br />WHEREAS, the proposed site would be adjacent to the <br />newly constructed Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium which <br />is the home of the South Bend White Sox, a professional <br />baseball team in the Midwest League; and <br />WHEREAS, relocating to downtown South Bend would <br />further enhance our City's vitality and pride and would <br />represent another positive step of economic revitalization <br />and growth. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of <br />the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION I. The Common Council of the City of South <br />Bend, Indiana, strongly encourages the National Railroad <br />Passenger Corporation to approve the relocation of the <br />Amtrak Terminal to the former Union Station located at 326 <br />West South Street. <br />SECTION II. The Council believes that such a <br />relocation to downtown South Bend would further enhance the <br />economic revitalization projects currently taking place in <br />the downtown area, and would be a positive move for all <br />passengers utilizing the Amtrak service. <br />SECTION III. The Council authorizes the Office of the <br />City Clerk to send a certified copy of this Resolution to <br />the officials of the National Railroad Passenger Corporation <br />so that it can be a part of the material they review during <br />their deliberations. <br />SECTION IV.
