RESOLUTION NO. 1592 -88 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING THE <br />SOUTH BEND POLICE DEPARTMENT AND SGT. BILL <br />iUMPHRIES FOR RECEIVING THE INDIANA "PROTECT <br />LITTLE HOOSIERS" AWARD <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, <br />acknowledges with great pride that the South Bend Police Department <br />received the "Protect Little Hoosiers" award on February 25, 1988; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council notes that this award is the State of <br />Indiana's highest occupant protection honor which acknowledges <br />significant contributions to child passenger safety; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council specifically commends Sgt. Bill Humphries <br />who oversees the "Hoosiers for Safety Belts" program in the South Bend <br />Police Department, <br />WHEREAS, during the 1986 -87 school year and during the summer of <br />1987, 30 schools had classes of 2,012 children at Safetyville; 15 pre- <br />schools had 1,117 children involved in Safetyville programs, and 517 <br />Headstart students participated in the Safetyville program; and <br />WHEREAS, over 7,351 children received instruction through the <br />Safetyville programs on bicycle safety, pedestrian safety, stranger <br />safety, seat belt safety, and other public safety concerns; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council also wants to acknowledge five (5) children <br />from St. Adalbert's School, namely Robyn, Samantha, Elizabeth, and <br />Joseph Wisniewski, and Nathaniel Angel III, who were among 385 members <br />in the "Indiana Saved By The Belt Club ", <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City <br />of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION I. On behalf of all of the citizens of South Bend, <br />Indiana, the Common Council hereby publicly commends the South Bend <br />Police Department and in particular Sgt. Bill Humphries for receiving <br />the "Protect Little Hoosiers" award for the State of Indiana. <br />SECTION II. The Common Council thanks Sgt. Humphries for a "job <br />well done" and thanks all of his assistants in the Police Department <br />including "Safetypups" and "Sgt. Moose." <br />SECTION III. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect <br />from and after its adoption by the Common Council and approval by the <br />Mayor. _ n <br />i <br />Irene K. Gammon <br />
