UTILITIES AUGUST 13, 2015 3:30 PM <br />Committee Members Present: Dr. David Varner, Derek Dieter (AB), Dr. Fred Ferlic (XAB), <br />Gavin Ferlic (AB) <br />Citizen Members Present: Kathleen Petitjean (AB) <br />Other Council Present: Tim Scott (4:05), Henry Davis (AB), Valerie Schey (AB), <br />Oliver Davis (AB), Karen White (AB) <br />Others Present: Eric Horvath, Kara Boyles, Mike Bronstetter <br />Agenda: Bill No. 24 -15 Amend Chapter 17 SBMC to Decrease the <br />Sewer Insurance Program Deductible <br />Bill No. 25 -15 Amend Chapter 16 SBMC to Provide Yard Waste <br />Removal solely from city Furnished Containers <br />Bill No. 26 -15 Amend Chapter 16 SBMC to Adjust Fees for City <br />Collection and Disposal of Refuse (Solid Waste) <br />Materials <br />Councilmember Dr. David Varner, Chair of the Utilities Committee called the meeting to order at 3:30 to <br />review proposals in bills 24 -15, 25 -15 and 26 -15. <br />Bill 24 -15 would reduce the deductible for City sewer insurance customers from $500.00 to $250.00 for <br />each occurrence of covered sewer repair. Additionally, the city would cover up to $1,000.00 of the costs <br />of landscaping, sprinklers, or sidewalk repair caused by the sewer repair. <br />Bill 25 -15 proposes that all city yard waste customers would have to use city furnished containers for <br />weekly pick -up. <br />Bill 26 -15 proposes to raise fees for collection and disposal of solid waste materials. <br />Bills 25 and 26 -15 are set for public hearing on August 24th. <br />Bill 24 -15 has been continued indefinitely. <br />Unfortunately Dr. Varner was the only Councilmember present at the beginning of the meeting. Council <br />President who had called saying he would be late, arrived at 4:05. Dr. Fred Ferlic called to say he would <br />be out of town. <br />Nonetheless, Eric Horvath - Director of Public Works, Kara Boyles — City Engineer, and Mike Bronstetter <br />— Director of Solid Waste proceeded with their presentation and discussion. <br />Eric Horvath provided two handouts (attached) to explain the City's suggested changes. The first <br />entitled yard waste alternatives offered three different options for yard waste collection. These options <br />are clearly outlined in the handout.
