CITY OF SOUTH BEND <br />PETE Bu nGtEG, MAYOR <br />Office of the Mayor <br />CONTACT: <br />Kara Kelly, (574) 235 -5853 <br />kkelly@southbendin.gov <br />FOR RELEASE: Monday, July 15, 2013 <br />NATIONAL EXPERT TO DISCUSS DOWNTOWN SOUTH BEND HOUSING MARKET <br />The City of South Bend will host a public lecture featuring Laurie Volk, a nationally recognized <br />analyst of demographic, market and lifestyle trends at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 25 at Recital <br />Hall, Century Center. The lecture is free and open to the public. Complimentary parking is <br />available. <br />Volk's lecture, "Downtown Housing Market: Who will live downtown, and what are they <br />looking for ?" will focus on where potential renters and buyers of newly- created housing units in <br />downtown South Bend are likely to move from and the target audience for such housing. <br />She will also discuss local housing preferences rental or ownership, multi - family or single - <br />family and what potential residents would be willing to pay. Volk will also explore how many <br />new housing units could be leased or sold within the downtown area over the next five years. <br />Volk is principal in charge of Zimmerman/Volk Associates' market studies and the firm's <br />primary analyst of demographic, market and lifestyle trends. Her recent efforts have focused on <br />the development of analytical tools to determine market potential for mixed - income, mixed -age <br />repopulation and new mixed -use, pedestrian- oriented sustainable neighborhood developments. <br />Volk is on the Board of Directors of the Seaside Institute and the National Charrette Institute, <br />and formerly held the position of co -chair of the Development and Implementation task force of <br />the Congress for the New Urbanism. She received the 2002 -2003 Knight Fellowship in <br />Community Building. <br />E.rMI. <br />
