CITY OF SOUTH BEND
PETE Bu nGtEG, MAYOR
Office of the Mayor
CONTACT:
Kara Kelly, (574) 235 -5853
kkelly@southbendin.gov
FOR RELEASE: Friday, July 12, 2013
MURAL PROJECT TO RESTRICT TRAFFIC ON INDIANA STATE ROUTE 933
Beginning Monday, July 15 through Monday, September 30, Indiana State Route 933 (Michigan
Street) will be narrowed to two lanes from the usual four between Angela Street and Northshore
Boulevard to accommodate artwork being done on the pedestrian overpass.
The restricted lanes will vary, allowing volunteers to access different areas of the structure. Also,
westbound access from Pokagon Street to 933 and eastbound access from Wakewa to 933 will be
closed.
Memorial Hospital, in conjunction with local artist Christopher Stackowicz, has organized a
community -wide effort to create a mural that enhances this northern entryway to South Bend.
The mural highlights South Bend's architecture, acting "as a link between where we have been
and where we can go next," Stackowicz says.
Project organizers welcomes volunteers to help paint the mural. Those interested in volunteering
for two- or three -hour shifts can contact Sarah Heintzelman at s.heintzehnan1920 @gmail.com.
min
