J 0 /0_ <br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION ONE OF ORDINANCE NO. 2865 BEING <br />AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE ESTABLISHING OF A DOG POUND AND <br />FOR THE REGISTRATION OF DOGS,BITCHES AND OTHER ANIhIALS OF THE <br />CANINE SPECIES; FOR THE INOCULATION OF SUCH DOGS WITH AN APPROV- <br />ED AND RECOGNIZED ANTI - RABIES SERUM; PROHIBITING ALL DOGS FROI? <br />RUNNING AT LARGE IN THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, UNLESS SO <br />INOCULATED OR T!UZZLED; PROVIDING I^_EANS FOR IDENTIFYING DOGS SO <br />REGISTERED AND INOCULATED; PROVIDING THAT DOGS SO INOCULATED <br />11AY UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS RUN AT LARGE; PROVIDING THAT ANY <br />DOG RUNNING AT LARGE AND NOT SO INOCULATED AND PROPERLY TAGGED <br />OR INZZLED IIfAY BE IITPOUNDED UPON FAILURE OF THE OWNER TO REDEEM <br />THE SAME; AND APPROPRIATING TWENTY -FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS FROH 'ME <br />GENERAL FUND OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AND THE BOARD <br />OF PUBLIC SAFETY FOR THE SALARY OF A DOG POUND nASTER, AND FOR <br />THE EC,UIPP,4ENT AND OPERATION OF SAID POUND, AND PROVIDING A <br />PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE AND REPEALING ALL <br />ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH. ADOPTED June 231 1930. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION 1. That Section 1 of the above said ordinance, No. <br />TTU , passed on 23rd day of June, 1930, be amended to read <br />as follows: <br />Section 1. That it shall be the duty of every person own- <br />ing any Tog within the corporate limits of the City of South <br />Bend, Indiana, over the age of three months, and desiring to <br />permit said dog to ran at large, to register said animal with <br />the Board of Public Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana; <br />and it shall be the duty of the said official to record, in <br />a book kept for that purpose, the name and address of the <br />owner of said dog, a brief description of said animal and the <br />registration number assigned to said animal; provided that <br />when any dog is registered in the office of the Board of Public <br />Safety after said animal has been inoculated by a licensed <br />.veterinarian with an approved and recognized anti - rabies selu m, <br />and a certificate certifying to such inoculation shall be <br />presented to the clerk of said Board signed by such licensed <br />veterinarian showing that said animal has been inoculated. <br />The clerk of said Board of Public Safety shall furnish the owner <br />of such animal at the time of registration with registration <br />receipt, and with a metal tag bearing a serial number which <br />shall be attached to said animal's collar; which shall in- <br />dicate the registration year for which said license has been <br />issued. The license and registration fee shall be One Dollar <br />41.00) per year for each dog, Provided that the said Board <br />shall charge, in addition to the above sum, the sum of Twenty - <br />five Cents (0.25) for each duplicate metal tag issued as here - <br />inbefore provided. <br />Said metal tag shall have stamped thereon a number correspond- <br />ing to the registration number of the dog so licensed, as <br />shown on said record book. For each registration year the tag <br />shall be of a different shape. Said license and tag shall not <br />be transferable to any other animal than the one registered. <br />On or before the first day of January, 1934, and the first day <br />of January of each year thereafter, dogs within the City of <br />South Bend shall be licensed for the twelve months following <br />such date which is defined as the registration year; provided <br />that dogs becoming of the age of three months in any registra- <br />tion year or which shall be brought into the city by their <br />owner during any registration year shall be licensed within <br />
