Section 54: If rainwater drain connects to the main house drain, <br />the connection shall be made with a "Y" branch, and trap shall be provid - <br />ed if said conductor opens or terminates within 12 feet of a window <br />measuring in horizontal direction. <br />When a rainwater leader connects to the house drain said drain shall <br />be not less than 6 inches in diameter. <br />Section 55: Then outside conductors or downspouts of sheet metal <br />are on driveways, streets or alleys and are connected with the house drain <br />they shall be so connected by the sue of not less than one length of extra <br />heavy cast iron -pipe extending vertically at least four (4) feet above <br />the grade line, except where an overflow out out is installed in whcih <br />case same may extend not less than one foot above grade. <br />Section 56: All building drains in all cases where new buildings <br />are erected and constructed in the city of South Bend, Indiana, shall be <br />either of six (6) inch glazed tile, or five (5) inch standard cast iron <br />soil pipe as is known in commerce. <br />The soil stacks from immediately above the basement floor must be <br />extra heavy cast iron pipes, galvanized wrought iron pipes, or galvanized <br />mild steel pipes.
