i, <br />i/ <br />ORDINANCE N0. 3 a Zd <br />WHEREAS, the Grand Trunk Western Railroad Company now <br />maintains automatic flasher signals at the crossing of its tracks <br />over South Eddy Street, South Notre Dame Avenue, South Columbia <br />Street and South Carroll Street, in the city of South Bend, Indiana, <br />.,. <br />WHEREAS, arrangements are now being made by the Grand <br />Trunk Western Railroad Company and the receiver of Northern Indiana <br />Railway, Inc. for the use of the Grand Trunk's tracks in transferring <br />street ears owned by Northern Indiana Railway, Inc. from the North to <br />the South side of the St. Joseph River, and <br />WHEREAS, it will be necessary for the tracks of the Grand <br />Trunk Western Railroad Company to be grounded with a.high voltage <br />current in order to make possible the use of said tracks for the <br />operation of electric cars over the same, and <br />WHEREAS, the electrification of said tracks will interfere <br />with the operation of the flasher signals at the above mentioned <br />crossings, and <br />WHEREAS, the Grand Trunk Western Railroad Company maintains <br />regularly, only four (4) switching movements over said crossings and <br />streets daily, and <br />WHEREAS, said Railroad Company is willing to protect and <br />guard said street crossings by placing a member of the train crew to <br />watch for traffic and act as flagman while said train movements are <br />operating over said streets, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of <br />the City of douth Bend, Indiana, that the Grand Trunk Western Railroad <br />-1- <br />
