( C-H 0�,- ls--�� <br />Resolution No. <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />RECOMMENDING THAT PUBLIC INPUT BE ENCOURAGED TO BE RECEIVED ON A SUGGESTED <br />ADDITIONAL STREET LOCATION TO BE CONSIDERED TO BE RENAMED <br />TO HONOR THE LATE REV. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. IN SOUTH BEND INDIANA <br />G%jf" the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana recognizes that almost a thousand communities <br />across our great county have renamed public streets to honor the late Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. as depicted in <br />the following map'; and <br />(WACraz4 current Indiana law set forth in Indiana Code §36 -7 -4 -405 provides that "streets shall be named or <br />renamed so that their names are easy to understand and to avoid duplication or conflict with other names "; <br />and <br />' 78 Social Education 123 (May, June 2014) Jerry T. Mitchell and Derek H. Alderman of the National Council for the Social Studies <br />"A Street Name for a King: The Politics of Place - Naming" notes that "the United States now contains no fewer than 890 streets, <br />boulevards, avenues, and courts named for the slain civil rights icon..." <br />
