<br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA,
<br />COMMENDING THE BETHEL PILOTS FOR WINNING THE NAIA DIVISION 11, NATIONAL
<br />CHAMPIONSHIP FOR 1995,
<br />9Ubtrt4g, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, enthusiastically
<br />acknowledges that the Bethel Pilots Basketball Team won the NAIA Division 11 National Championship
<br />by a score of 103 to 95 in Nampa, Idaho; and
<br />9Ubtrtas, the Common Council is proud to further acknowledge that the Bethel Pilots finished
<br />the season with a record of 38 wins and only 2 loses, having set a College School record with 16 straight
<br />victories; and
<br />9Ubtr440, the City of South Bend salutes Coach Mike Lightfoot and his entire coaching and
<br />managing staff along with all of the young men on the Bethel Pilots Basketball Team for their fantastic
<br />team effort and excellence both on and off the court; and
<br />1UbtrUS, the 1994 -1995 Varsity Basketball Team included from South Bend: Chad Johnson,
<br />Von Gilbert, Rico Swanson, Jody Goralski, Charles Harris, and other team members: Eric Hostetler, Sam
<br />Obermeyer, Randy Romer, Mike Miller, Mike McBride, Mark Galloway, Jeff Hobson, Jeff Clay, Mike
<br />Large, Jeff Zurcher, Jon Berger, Matt Wilson, Jason Groves, Eli Welch; Manager Alan Grzeskowiak;
<br />Athletic Secretary Nancy Snell, Assistant Coaches Scott Laplace and Todd Gongwer and JR. Varsity
<br />Coaches Robby Prenkert and Chris Hess; and
<br />9 6trtas, Coach Lightfoot's career record is now 235 victories and 65 loses and with the NAIA
<br />Division II Championship, the Bethel College Basketball Class of 1995 includes Mark Galloway, Jody
<br />Goralski, Sam Obetmeyer, Mike McBride, and Chad Joston as having all played on three (3) National
<br />Championships including two (2) NCCAA Championships Squads in 1992 and 1993; and
<br />9Ubtrtag, the Bethel College victory over Northwest Nazarene on March 14, 1995 capped a
<br />storybook ending for the entire team, most of whom have grown up in the South Bend and Michiana area.

<br />SECTION I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common
<br />Council hereby publicly commends the Bethel College Basketball Team proudly known as the
<br />"Bethel Pilots" for winning the NAIA Division II National Championship by a score of 103 to 95.
<br />SECTION II. The Common Council further commends Bethel Coach Mike Lightfoot and his
<br />entire Coaching Staff along with all of the individual members on the Bethel College Basketball Team for
<br />not only their athletic ability on the basketball court, but also for their excellence as individuals off the
<br />court, and being proven role models to men and women of all ages.
<br />SECTION III. The Common Council is proud to salute Bethel College, the Bethel Pilots, and
<br />all of the friends and families of the young men who have worked so hard in bringing a National
<br />Championship home to our community. We salute each and every one of you and hereby proclaim the
<br />week of May 8, 1995 as "Bethel Pilots National Championship Week in South Bend,
<br />Indiana ".
<br />SECTION IV. This Resolution shall be in full force and effectttfrom and after its adoption by the
