REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 18.2015 IS Captain Darrell Eiler and Firefighters Aaron Randall and Chris Manzuk At approximately 23:40 hours on January 20, 2015, the crew of Truck 6 responded to the report of a residential fire at 857 S. Greenview. Upon arrival at the scene of a one -story residential structure fully engulfed in flames, and members of Engine 6 already committed to search and rescue activities aimed at removing two victims from the home, Firefighter Randall assisted Firefighter Elick from Engine 6 to perform a Vent, Enter, Search operation on the delta side of the building. Once a victim was found, and it was apparent that he was too large to extricate from the home's existing openings, Captain Eiler and Firefighter Manzuk took the initiative to create a "doorway" from the window on that side of the house, using a chainsaw to enlarge the opening, As interior crews, including Firefighter Randall, were moving the victim towards the opening, Captain Eiler and Firefighter Manzuk assisted with removing the victim from the home. All three firefighters continued to assist Medic 4 personnel providing emergency medical care to the injured man. Firefighter Randall drove Medic 4 to the hospital in order to allow the Medic crew to continue to provide care in the ambulance. This patient was delivered to the hospital twenty -three minutes after the 911 call was received in the dispatch center. Without the synchronized teamwork that was necessary for this rescue, along with these crews adapting to a difficult extrication, this rescue would not have been possible. The actions of the crew of Truck 6 at this fire directly contributed to this patient's survival. Be it further resolved that Darrell Filer, Aaron Randall, and Chris Manzuk be commended and recognized for their quick actions, dedication, and professionalism. Their actions reflect highly upon themselves, the South Bend Fire Department, and the City of South Bend. AND MIKE OLSON Fire Chief Stephen Cox presented the following commendation: COMMENDATION FOR FIREFIGHTERS MIKE CARROLL, DEREK ERQUHART, RYAN KAKALIA, AND MIKE OLSON WHEREAS, the Board of Public Safety wishes to issue commendations to individuals that perform meritorious service on behalf of the citizens of this community, and; WHEREAS, such service shall be recognized by the Board of Public Safety, and appropriate commendation shall be presented to the individuals performing said meritorious service; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that commendation be given to: Firefighters Mike Carroll, Derek Erquhart, Ryan Kakalia, and Mike Olson At approximately 23:40 hours on January 20, 2015, the crew of Rescue 1 responded to the report of a residential fire at 857 S. Greenview. Upon arrival at the scene of a one -story residential structure fully engulfed in flames, Rescue 1 crew members split into two search and rescue teams entering the burning home.
