RESOLUTION NO. <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA, URGING THE ST. JOSEPH COUNTY PUBLIC OFFICIALS TO <br />RECONSIDER ITS LOCATION FOR A NEW COUNTY JAIL. <br />9 WtgB, the need for a new jail to service St. Joseph County Indiana, is readily <br />apparent; and <br />WW M, the City of South Bend is in need of a new Police Station to better service its <br />residents throughout the City; and <br />WW M, it is believed that both facilities could be located in a consolidated "Crime <br />Fighting Campus" at the Lafayette and Sample Street location; and <br />'l btrtgg, to have both facilities centrally located would promote governmental <br />efficiency and effectiveness through City and County cooperation; and <br />VWt4g, it is believed that this proposal should be given serious consideration as we <br />continue to work together to improve our local Criminal Justice System so that it will be in <br />the forefront of all such Criminal Justice Systems throughout our nation by the year 2000. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />SECTION I: In the sprit of cooperation, the City of South Bend, Indiana, urges the public <br />officials of St. Joseph County, Indiana, to reconsider its proposed new County Jail Site. <br />SECTION II: The City of South Bend urges the St. Joseph County Public Officials to <br />meet with representatives of the City of South Bend to consider a joint "crime fighting <br />campus" to be located at Lafayette and Sample Street with such location housing both a <br />new County Jail and new City Police Station. <br />SECTION III: We, as elected public officials, are willing to participate in such a far - <br />reaching community project so that the best possible solution is selected which meets our <br />mutual needs. <br />SECTION IV: Achieving the best result of our tax payers dollars which most effectively <br />and efficiently enhances our Criminal Justice System, must be foremost in all decision <br />making processes. <br />SECTION V: This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption <br />by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />tt ep ' n Luecke, First District <br />e��- — <br />At -Large <br />Inane K.
