COMMUNITY INVESTMENT APRIL 13, 2015 3:45 P.M. <br />Committee Members Present: Gavin Ferlic, Henry Davis, David Varner, Dr. Fred Ferlic <br />Citizen Members Present: Bob Emery, Pat Mullin <br />Other Council Present: Tim Scott, Valerie Schey, Oliver Davis, Derek Dieter, <br />Karen White <br />Others Present: Kathy Cekanski - Farrand, Brock Zeeb, Chauncey Hitchcock, <br />Chris Fielding <br />Agenda: Bill 15 -24 Tax Abatement for 3230 South Bend Ave. <br />Rainbow Rascals South Bend LLC —4 Yr. Real <br />Bill 15 -25 Tax Abatement for 1702 Robinson St. <br />Bamar Plastics, Inc. —5 Yr. Personal <br />Gavin Ferlic, Chair of the Community Investment Committee called the meeting to order noting two bills <br />up for consideration. <br />The first bill 15 -24 was a petition for a four year real property tax abatement for Rainbow Rascals at <br />3230 South Bend Avenue. <br />Brock Zeeb from the Community Investment Department described the project as a child care center <br />serving 150 children. Total investment was estimated to be over $1,255,000 and would create 30 jobs. <br />Chauncey Hitchcock, corporate council for Rainbow Rascals, further described the proposal and was <br />open for any questions. <br />After brief discussion Dr. Fred Ferlic moved to send favorably. Citizen member Bob Emery offered a <br />second and all affirmed. <br />The second bill, 15 -25, was a petition from Bamar Plastics at 1702 S. Robinson for a five year personal <br />property abatement. <br />Brook Zeeb again made the presentation describing Bamar's purchase of a vertical rotary press allowing <br />Bamar to expand, better serve their customers and remain competitive. A company representative was <br />present to answer questions. <br />Valerie Schey wondered about job creation. Brock confirmed that three new jobs would be created. <br />Subsequently, Valerie Schey moved for favorable recommendation. Gavin Ferlic seconded and all <br />affirmed. <br />
