Resolution No. 1 7 / <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL, THE LEGISLATIVE BRANCH OF <br />SOUTH BEND, A CITY WHICH WAS INCORPORATED IN 1865 AND WHICH IS <br />LOCATED IN THE COUNTY OF ST. JOSEPH AND IS FORMERLY CLASSIFIED <br />BY INDIANA STATE LAW AS A SECOND CLASS CITY, HEREBY WISHES, <br />DESIRES, COMMENDS AND CONGRATULATES IRENE K. GAMMON <br />FOR HER TWENTY -FOUR YEARS OF SERVICE AS CITY CLERK OF THE CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND WHO PURSUANT TO INDIANA CODE § 36 -4 -6 -9 IS THE <br />CLERK OF THE LEGISLATIVE BODY WHO WAS ELECTED SIX CONSECUTIVE <br />TIMES PURSUANT TO INDIANA CODE § 36- 4-10 -2 BY THE VOTERS OF THIS <br />CITY TO SERVE IN SUCH PUBLIC CAPACITY AND WHO HAS SERVED <br />COUNTLESS NUMBERS OF COUNCIL MEMBERS AND PURSUANT TO <br />INDIANA CODE § 36- 4-10 -4 MAINTAINED ALL RECORDS REQUIRED BY LAW, <br />KEPT THE CITY SEAL, AND PERFORMED OTHER DUTIES PRESCRIBED BY <br />LAW DURING HER CAREER AS CITY CLERK. <br />Vbtrttlg, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, recognizes that in <br />1971, one Irene Kathleen Gammon ran for public office for the first time; and <br />'D btrtsg, the Council recognizes that Irene K. Gammon won six (6) consecutive <br />elections for the office of City Clerk of the City of South Bend, Indiana and is completing <br />her twenty- fourth year in that position; and <br />VbtrtO.8, as of December 31, 1995, Irene K. Gammon will complete forty-seven <br />(47) years of public service to the City of South Bend and St. Joseph County; and <br />'DIllijtrt40, since 1972, Irene K. Gammon has been a memeber of the International <br />Institute of Municipal Clerks and received the internationally recognized status of "Certified <br />Municipal Clerk" in 1979; and <br />'Il btrt8g, the Common Council further acknowledges that Irene K. Gammon has <br />been a delegate to every Democratic State Convention since 1956, has served on countless <br />numbers of civic and governmental organizations as well as the Altrusa International, Inc., <br />and other civic minded clubs and organizations during her long public service career. <br />Xotu, 3Cfjtrt£ort, bt it molbtb by tht Common Council of tbt VtV of <br />Zoutb 30910, 10i0usi, as follows: <br />�Sttti0tt I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, <br />the Common Council hereby publicly commends and congratulates Irene Kathleen <br />Gammon for her twenty -four (24) years of service as the City Clerk of our fine City. <br />�Sttti= II. Beginning her career on January 1, 1949 at the age of 19 in the <br />County Treasurer's Office, and then serving as a bookkeeper in the County Auditor's <br />Office, Irene K. Gammon then left service in the County to begin her long carrer as City <br />Clerk, having served the citizens of South Bend with four Mayors, namely: Jerry J. <br />Miller, Peter J. Nemeth, Roger O. Parent, and Joseph E. Keman. <br />Ottti0tt III. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, thanks <br />Irene K.
