RESOLUTION NO. 3 2- 9 7 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA, COMMENDING GWEN E. STIVER FOR HER SEVENTEEN (17) YEARS OF <br />DEDICATED SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF PARK COMMISSIONERS. <br />'1 btrtBS, the South Bend Common Council is proud to acknowledges that Gwen E. <br />Stiver began her seventeen (17) years of dedicated public service on the South Bend Board of Park <br />Commissioners in 1979; and <br />915trVIS, the dedicated spirit of caring and giving to others which Gwen E. Stiver is so <br />well known for at the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church and which she enthusiastically shared over <br />her long and distinguished tenure on the Board of Park Commissioners; and <br />'llVntrtBS, under the guidance of Gwen E. Stiver, and especially in the many years in <br />which she served as President of the South Bend Board of Park Commissioners, Gwen E. Stiver <br />helped guide and influence the construction of many Park and Recreation projects, some of which <br />include the East Race Waterway; the Stanley Coveleski Regional Baseball Stadium; the soon to be <br />open Belleville Softball Complex; the numerous expansions to the Potowatomi Zoo, the <br />development of the Riverwalk system with the extension of the riverwalk to Twyckenham Bridge, <br />the construction of the East Bank Trail, the construction of the Rum Village Annex Mountain <br />Bicycle Trail development, and countless other projects and program activities; and <br />Vhtr3t8g, under Gwen E. Stiver's leadership, a successful merger of the Recreation <br />Commission and the Park Department was able to take place in order to create the current Parks <br />and Recreation Department which oversees seventy -one (71) public parks and playgrounds <br />encompassing over 1,343 acres dedicated to park and recreation activities; and <br />MWIC4U, Gwen E. Stiver's selfless dedication and commitment to promoting our entire <br />park system, of enhancing activities along the St. Joseph River, of developing and improving the <br />forty -seven (47) baseball diamonds, the twenty -five (25) softball diamonds, the two (2) ice rinks, <br />the three (3) recreation centers, and of promoting the many other park and recreation activities, <br />have brought smiles and fond memories to thousands of individuals of all ages over the past <br />seventeen (17) years in which Gwen E. Sliver has provided her kind spirit and helpful insights to <br />the citizens of South Bend, Indiana. <br />XOW, 96tr4Wt, 09 It 808itttb by the Common Council of the City of South <br />Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />Section I. On behalf of all the the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the <br />Common Council hereby publicly commends GWEN E. STIVER for her seventeen (17) years <br />of dedicated and conscientious service to all of the citizens of South Bend, Indiana, and in <br />particular to the Board of Park Commissioners. <br />Section II. The Common Council is indeed grateful to GWEN E. STIVER for <br />contributing positively to our community through her years of service and by being an avid <br />supporter and user of our park system and especially our municipal golf courses. <br />Section IH. The South Bend Common Council wishes GWEN E. STIVER years of <br />continued happiness, and the satisfaction of knowing that because of her efforts and her many <br />contributions over the past seventeen years, that the City of South Bend's park and recreation <br />system is one of the forest in the nation. <br />Section IV.
