RESOLUTION NO. AA - q6 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA, COMMENDING JOSEPH E. KERNAN FOR HIS NINE (9) YEARS OF <br />DEDICATED SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP AS MAYOR OF THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. <br />'O &Vtgg, the South Bend Common Council proudly acknowledges that Joseph E. <br />Keman has served as Mayor of our fine City for the past nine years; and <br />'B btrtag, the Council acknowledges that as the Lieutenant Governor -Elect for the State of <br />Indiana, Mayor Joe will head the state's economic development efforts and will seek to foster a <br />state that is "safe, attractive, vibrant, inexpensive, strong, fun, stable and healthy" , like the goals <br />he established for the City of South Bend in his State of the City Address to the Council; and <br />"O btrta Z, Mayor Keman was the first South Bend Mayor to ever win a third four -year <br />term in our City's history, reflecting the popularity and the support of the many programs he and <br />his very able staff have fostered by placing the City on an aggressive mission of being recognized <br />as a model city by the year 2000; and <br />Mbtrtag, some of his many achievements and accomplishments include: the Sister City <br />Program with Czestochowa, Poland; Mayor's Night Out and Mayor's Night In Programs; the <br />Good Neighbors /Good Neighborhoods initiative as well as the multitude of neighborhood <br />programs and the revitalized economic commitment to enhance and improve neighborhood <br />activities; stabilizing the City's financial base by improving the City's bond rating to AA; <br />revitalizing the downtown; the opening of Blackthorn Development Area; the College Football <br />Hall of Fame; and enthusiastically supporting and promoting the South Bend Silver Hawks; and <br />Ubtrtss, the dedication and caring attitude of this special public servant, who has built <br />his entire career on trust, will continue to instill confidence in our State and our citizens. Because <br />of his efforts, we will "celebrate the dawn of a new millennium ", will "be excited about the <br />prospects ", and will be "ready to tackle all of the challenges and excitement that it will bring." <br />POW, ZbgrtfOrt, Vt It @Vhf Ytb by the Common Council of the City of South <br />Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />Section I. On behalf of all the the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the <br />Common Council hereby publicly commends JOSEPH E. KERNAN for his nine (9) years of <br />dedicated and selfless service to all of the citizens of South Bend, Indiana. <br />Section H. The Common Council notes that under Mayor Joe's leadership the keystone <br />has been his sincere committment of working together to preserve and enhance our community, <br />with the citizens of our community being the true benefactors of his legacy and vision. <br />Section IIL The South Bend Common Council wishes Mayor Joe and his wife, Maggie, <br />continued success as they take on state -wide issues, and encourage them to return to our City <br />often, since the welcome mat will always be out. <br />Section IV.
