RESOLUTION NO. 3 ~g~ ' ~ <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />PUBLICLY COMMEMORATING THE COUNTLESS CONTRIBUTIONS MADE TO THE <br />SOUTH BEND COMMUNITY BY THE LATE MORRIS "MOE" ARONSON <br />i~1~euQ, the residents of the City of South Bend are deeply saddened by the passing of a true <br />community leader and educator, Morris "Moe" Aronson, on December 22, 2006 at the age of 90; and <br />~~1~aa, the Common Council recognizes that Moe Aronson was born on Valentine's Day in <br />1916; graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1934; and received Bachelor of Science <br />Degrees from Purdue University in 1939 in mathematics and chemistry; noting that he wrestled and <br />played football at both the high school and college levels; and <br />i~finii~aa, following service in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Pulaski State Park, Moe <br />enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 and served in the l Ot" Mountain Division as a 1St Lieutenant <br />and Infantry Officer during World War II; and <br />~~eaa, for the next five (5) decades Moe Aronson "inspired students as a talented math <br />teacher and hard-nosed wrestling coach" at John Adams High School; conducted gym classes at the <br />South Bend High School/Rabbinical College; and following his retirement Moe continued to substitute <br />teach and "work out religiously at the YMCA of Michiana" and became known as the "fitness guru". <br />cJ1/~, c~16, G6 ~t~~ed, by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as <br />follows: <br />Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common <br />Council hereby publicly commemorates and celebrates the life of the late Morris "Moe" Aronson for <br />a life dedicated to teaching math and coaching, with perhaps his most greatest achievements being that <br />of "teaching life lessons so well"; for "looking for potential in kids where others might not see it"; and <br />for having a "great and generous heart". <br />Section II. 'The South Bend Common Council believes that the rich legacy left by the late <br />Morris "Moe" Aronson will continue to enrich our community as we reflect upon the many <br />contributions made by this 1995 inductee of the South Bend City Hall of Fame whose 1966 Adams <br />Eagles wrestling team won the Indiana State Titie; with Coach Aronson affectionately becoming <br />known as "Mighty Moe" who later was inducted into the Indiana Wrestling Hall of Fame. <br />Section III . The Common Council hopes that all of the rich and lasting memories of Coach <br />Aronson, who became an institution around Adams High School for being an outstanding teacher, "a <br />hard-core disciplinarian, a longtime wrestling coach" and a great guy will help brighten the years <br />ahead for Marian E.
