Resolution No. <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA, CONGRATULATING THE SOUTH BEND HOUSING AUTHORITY <br />IMPALA SOCCER TEAMS SPONSORED BY C.O.P.E. <br />'lIiVhCV09, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, proudly <br />acknowledges that former Police Chief Ron Marcimak helped start the IMPALA Soccer <br />program which today enjoys the instrumental support from Trell Wechter, Dan Payne, Jim <br />Tallman, Paul Dibernardo, Jim Linder, Pat McGraw, Sandy Brooke, Tim Roemer, and <br />Derek D. Dieter, COPE Coordinator; and <br />'Q btVtOO, IMPALA is an acronym for "Implementing Maturity, Positivity, <br />Athleticism, Leadership and Attitude" with the teams being coached by officers from the <br />South Bend Police Department who work for the Citizens Oriented Police Enforcement <br />(COPE) program; and <br />VW 00, the IMPALA Soccer Team began under the leadership of the late Alonzo <br />Watson on October 21, 1983, with a 4 -1 win over Stanley Clark School, and since that <br />time have posted a 352 - 126 -12 record which reflects a .742 winning percentage; and <br />9W1ZA0, the IMPALA Soccer Teams have won 21 League title, 20 area <br />championships, and are examples of positive police - youth - resident interaction; and <br />V b9V449, on January 15, 2000, the South Bend Housing Authority IMPALA Soccer <br />Team played its 500th game, and is today recognized by the Indiana Youth Soccer <br />Association as a model program for Soccer Start in the State of Indiana. <br />Ad), - 9him£ort, bt it rtgolbtb by the Common Council of tbt Citg of <br />60UM Vtub, Mina, ss £olloins: <br />69tti0n I: On behalf of all of the residents of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the <br />South Bend Common Council congratulates all of the many, many police officers, coaches <br />and staff, public officials and concerned citizens who have dedicated their time and talents <br />to the ongoing success of the SOUTH BEND HOUSING AUTHORITY IMPALA <br />SOCCER TEAMS and for providing opportunities for the youth of our community to <br />become involved in activities which emphasize "Implementing Maturity, Positivity, <br />Athleticism, Leadership and Attitude ". <br />�SZtti011 II: The City of South Bend recognizes that thirteen (13) soccer players have <br />gone on to play for their high school teams, four (4) players made the Junior Irish Travel <br />teams, five (5) players made the Olympic Development teams, and one (1) player was able <br />to attend Bethel College because of his involvement in IMPALA soccer. <br />�RZUOn III: The Common Council further recognizes that over 300 youth have <br />participated and played in area leagues such as the Michiana Soccer Association, Soccer <br />Zone, Turners, Elkhart Soccer and teams have traveled to Denver, Colorado twice for <br />NIKE 3 and three (3) national tournaments; and the Council wishes each of the IMPALA <br />soccer players continued success as each of them continue to be role models for their peers, <br />both on and off the soccer field. <br />gttti0n IV: This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its <br />adoption by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />James Aranowski, First District <br />Charlotte Pfeifer Second Dnc <br />Roland Kelly, Third District <br />Karl King, Fourth District <br />atteot: <br />Loretta J.
