Resolution No. Zq E ? -0 I <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA, HONORING ALL POLICE OFFICERS AND ESPECIALLY THOSE KILLED <br />IN THE LINE OF DUTY AND DECLARING THE WEEK OF MAY 7, 2001, AS <br />LAWENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL WEEK IN SOUTH BEND INDIANA <br />N61=49, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, notes that on <br />Wednesday, May 9, 2001 the men and women of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge # 36 <br />will conduct the City's annual tribute and memorial service to honor those officers who have <br />given their lives in the line of duty while serving the citizens of the City of South Bend; and <br />VIIeVV", the Common Council further recognizes that the following South Bend <br />Police Officers were killed in the line of duty: <br />HANS BRANDT <br />PAUL R. IXGUCH <br />NEIL MCINrYRE <br />FRm E. BULAND <br />THOMAS J. DERuE, SR. <br />DELBERT THOMPSON <br />OSCAR CHRISTENSON <br />CHARLES E. FARKAS, SR. <br />LLOYD THOMPSON <br />SAMUEL COOPER <br />RONALD ST. GERMAN, SR. <br />HOWARD WAGNER <br />LEwis KEG ; and <br />969M O, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial was dedicated on <br />October 15, 1991, and bears the names of over 15,000 peace officer who were killed in the line <br />of duty since 1794; with the names of 150 federal, state and local police officers killed in the <br />year 2000 being added this year to commemorate those officers who served as the "thin blue <br />line" standing between the lawful and the lawless. <br />noty, thado", be it "Solbeb by * (Common Council of the (titp of ,§outb vent, <br />Itttbionat, ag followa: <br />Section I. On behalf of all the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council <br />hereby publicly commemorates and honors the thirteen (13) members of the South Bend Police <br />Department who paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting the residents of our city. <br />Section II. The Common Council honors each of these fallen police heroes, not because of the <br />way each of them died, but rather because of the way each of these officers lived and performed their <br />police duties every day of the year. <br />Section III. The Common Council hereby declares the week of May 7th, 2001 as Iaw ENFORCE- <br />MENT MEMORIAL WEEK IN SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, and urges all citizens to work together toward peace <br />and harmony in all of our neighborhoods in partnership with our dedicated police officers. <br />Section IV. The Common Council further urges all governmental agencies, businesses, and <br />residents of the City of South Bend to fly their flags at half -staff on Tuesday, May 15th, the national <br />"Peace Officers Memorial Day" in the United States of America. <br />Section V.
