HENRY DAVIS JR.
2"dDistrict South Bend City Council
For Release: 1:30pm.
November 13, 2014
(574) 315 -4112
Press Release,
"Public Safety is not a Priority..."
When we fail to provide valuable and necessary city services we fail the tax payer. Since
Sunday, it has been forecasted that we would see a drastic change in weather like the states of
Minnesota, Michigan and Montana. Today was no different for us like, these other states but
even more damaging because the administration failed to prepare.
Public safety should always be our number one priority and today we have seen countless
accidents including school buses and postponements of vital services such as public
transportation.
It is incumbent upon me and my fiduciary responsibility toward the common man and tax-
paying- citizens of the City of South Bend to beg my fellow Council members as well as the
current administration to pay attention to what matters most and that includes the safety of all our
residents.
I am very nervous on how weather like this will affect the travel for our major corridors such as
Lincolnway, Western Ave. including downtown. If our response is going to lack luster, traffic
accidents and cancellations of after school programming will become a norm. It will only be
proper to ask the Mayor and his administration to reevaluate the 'smart-street' plan initiative and
come up with alternatives to create better traffic patterns. We can and should do better for the
residents and taxpayers of this city.
227 W.
