<br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA,
<br />PUBLICLY COMMENDING THE MANY JOURNALISTS FROM THE Cliut/ �6eind P9w" FOR
<br />EARNING AWARDS AND HONORS FROM THE INDIANA CHAPTER OF THE
<br />SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISTS FOR JOURNALISM EXCELLENCE
<br />WL,eireaa, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana notes that the Society of
<br />Professional Journalists was founded in 1909 and is the nation's largest not - for - profit journalism
<br />organization with over 13,500 journalists who "believe that public enlightenment is the forerunner of
<br />justice and the foundation of democracy" ; and
<br />Oft mat, the Society of Professional Journalists believe that the duty of the journalist is to seek
<br />truth and provide a fair and comprehensive account of events and issues, while serving the public with
<br />thoroughness, honesty and professional integrity; and
<br />Wteeweaa, the South Bend Common Council proudly recognizes the following journalists from
<br />the QRLd P& Ad 9x1uiw who earned eight (8) 1St place awards, three (3) 2ad place awards and two (2)
<br />3`d place awards for their work in the "2004 Best in Indiana Journalism" by the Indiana Chapter of the
<br />Society of Professional Journalists held on April 29, 2005, namely:
