DIVERSITY UTILIZATION BOARD / DUB JUNE 16, 2014
The following is meant to serve as a brief synopsis of the DUB meeting discussions held on Monday, June
16th. 2014.
Board members attending the meeting were James Summers, Carrie Kosac, Kareemah Fowler, Tom
Capers, Cherri Peate, and Sheri Miller -Story. Council liaison Valerie Schey, Compliance Officer Hall, and
Purchasing Manager George King were not present.
Citizens attending were Murray Miller, John Sanders, Tony Flora, Barbara Turner, and Marty Wolfson.
President James Summers proposed what he considered a pretty aggressive agenda which was agreed
to without revision. (Attached) As stated in the agenda President Summers began by reminding DUB
members they were to have reviewed previous handouts. Any questions or recommendations would be
aired at today's meeting.
A plethora of questions and suggestions covering a wide -range of issues followed.
In an effort to address the questions and maintain focus on the task of increasing minority participation
in City contracts for goods and services, President Summers proposed the issues be grouped by subject
matter. Subcommittees of the DUB would then take them under consideration reporting their
recommendations to the full DUB. Pending DUB affirmation, a timely report to the Council would
follow.
Further discussions followed; but are not outlined here due to the City Clerk's claim of loss of notes used
to recount the proceedings.
Before adjourning it was determined the DUB would meet on every 11t and 3rtl Monday of the month as
long as this frequency was necessary. Additionally, the interests of making progress, meetings would be
held to June 30th and July 71h. The DUB was urged to continue review of materials and recommendations
would continue at the next meeting.
President Summers adjourned at 6:37.
Attachment:
1. 06/16/14 Agenda
