<br />AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE ANNUAL SALARY OF THE SOUTH BEND, 
<br />INDIANA, CITY COURT PROBATION OFFICER; AND APPROPRIATING 
<br />FROM THE GENERAL FUND OF SAID CITY THE SUM OF THREE HUNDRED 
<br />NINETY -EIGHT DOLLARS AND FIFTY CENTS ( ;398,50) T:O THE 1951 
<br />BUDGETARY ITEM, SERVICES PERSONAL, IN THE OFFICE OF CITY 
<br />JUDGE; REPEALING ANY AND ALL CONFLICTING ORDINANCES, AND 
<br />DECLARING AN EXTRAORDINARY EMERGENCYe 
<br />WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the State of Indiana at its 1951 session 
<br />by a certain bill, known as House Bill No. 180,1 approved March 8. 1951, provided 
<br />that the salary of the Probation Officers of the City Courts shall be fixed by the 
<br />Common Counoil; and 
<br />WHEREAS, the Probation Officer of the City Court of the City of South Bend, 
<br />Indiana, comes within the provisions of said bill; and 
<br />WHEREAS, said bill was passed by the General Assembly of Indiana as an 
<br />emergency matter; and 
<br />WHEREAS, twenty freeholders of the City of South Bend, Indiana, have filed a 
<br />petition with the Common Council of South Bend, representing that the annual salary 
<br />of the Probation Officer of the City Court of said City "is not an adequate compensation 
<br />for the services performed and should be increased in a sum specified" in said 
<br />petition; and 
<br />WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, did "in open 
<br />session consider said petition and heard evidence thereon and did fix" a certain 
<br />sum as an addition to or an increase in the annual salary of the Probation Officer 
<br />of the City Court; now, therefore 
<br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that: 
<br />Section is The annual salary of the Probation Officer of the City Court of 
<br />the City of South Bend, Indiana, be, and the same hereby is,, fixed, to be effective 
<br />as of July 1, 1951, in.the sum:of Four thousand Two Hundred #$4?,s90,00) Dollars• 
<br />Section 26 That there be, and the some hereby is, appropriated from the 
<br />General Fund of the City of South Bend, Indiana, for the uses and purposes of the 
<br />following budgetary item in the budget of the City of South Bend, Indiana, for the 
<br />year 1951, to -wit: 
<br />OFFICE OF CITY JUDGE: 
<br />B-11, lary of robation Officer $ 398.50 
<br />Section 3e That any and all ordinances in conflict with Sections 1 and 2 of 
<br />this ordinance are hereby repealed• 
<br />Section 4e That the sum of money enumerated in Section 2 of this ordinance 
<br />is required for the proper operation and function of the aforementioned Office of 
<br />the Government of the City of South Bend, Indiana, and an extraordinary emergency 
<br />is declared to exist concerning said appropriation• 
<br />Section 5. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and 
<br />after its passage by the Common Council, its approval by the Mayor and the fulfillment 
<br />of all statutory requirements relating to extraordinary emergency appropriations,
