EXECUTIVE SESSION JULY 16, 2014 43 <br /> The Board of Public Safety met in the Executive Session on Wednesday,July 16,2014 at 8:21 a.m. <br /> The meeting was held in the Board Conference Room, 13th Floor,County City Building,South Bend, <br /> Indiana, for the purposes specified in I.C.5-14-1.5-6.1(b)(2)(A)6(A). Board President <br /> Laura Vasquez and Board Members Eddie Miller, John Collins, Luther Taylor, and Daniel Jones <br /> were present. Also present were Fire Chief Stephen Cox, Police Chief Ronald Teachman, and <br /> Attorney Cory Hamel. Board members did not discuss any subject matter other than the subject <br /> matter as specified in the Public Notice. Martin, Jerk <br /> REGULAR MEETING JULY 16. 2014 <br /> The Board of Public Safety met in the Regular Meeting at 9:23 a.m. on Wednesday,July 16, 2014, <br /> with Board President Laura Vasquez and Board Members Eddie Miller,John Collins,Luther Taylor, <br /> and Daniel Jones present. Also present were Police Chief Ronald Teachman, Fire Chief Stephen <br /> Cox, and Attorney Cory Hamel. The meeting was held in the Board Conference Room, 130'Floor, <br /> County City Building, South Bend, Indiana. <br /> CHANGE IN AGENDA ORDER <br /> President Vasquez informed those present that the Board would address the Fire and Police <br /> promotions first and then return to the agenda order. <br /> POLICE DEPARTMENT <br /> APPROVE HIRING OF PROBATIONARY POLICE OFFICERS — SAMUEL CHAPUT AND <br /> KATRINA ROACH <br /> In a letter to the Board,Police Chief Ronald Teachman recommended the hiring of Samuel Chaput <br /> and Katrina Roach as probationary Police Officers, effective August 17, 2014. Chief Teachman <br /> stated both officers have honorably completed their eleven (11) week obligation in Plainfield, <br /> Indiana. He noted that Katrina Roach will be the twenty-third female officer, bringing the total to <br /> 247 now. Chief Cox stated she was a member of the National Honor Society in high school and <br /> maintained a 3.47 GPA in college. Chief Teachman stated Samuel Chaput is a Penn High School <br /> graduate who served his country for over seven (7) years and was a Staff Sergeant upon his <br /> _ honorable discharge. Deputy Mayor Mark Neal congratulated both officers and thanked them for <br /> their honorable service to the City. He welcomed them to the City and noted Mr. Chaput formally <br /> defended his country and will now defend his home land.Upon a motion by Mr.Jones,seconded by <br /> Mr. Taylor and carried, the Chief s recommendation was accepted and approved. <br /> SWEARING IN OF POLICE OFFICERS <br /> - Samuel Chaput <br /> -Katrina Roach <br /> Mr. John Voorde, City Clerk, was present and administered the Oath of Office to the above listed <br /> individuals. Their family members pinned their badges on them and the Board wished them well in <br />
