Davis, President <br />South Bend Common Council <br />4th Floor County -City Building <br />South Bend, IN 46601 <br />PETE BUTTIGIEG, MAYOR <br />OFFICE OF THE MAYOR <br />RE: Resolution to Approve Interlocal Agreement for <br />Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) <br />Dear President Davis: <br />Attached for the Common Council's consideration is a proposed resolution which approves <br />an Interlocal Agreement among the following governmental units in St. Joseph County, Indiana: <br />the Cities of South Bend and Mishawaka, the County of St. Joseph, and the Clay Fire Territory. <br />This resolution authorizes the South Bend Mayor or Deputy Mayor to execute the Interlocal <br />Agreement on behalf of the City of South Bend, and the subject matter of the Agreement is the <br />operation of a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for the dispatch of fire, ambulance and law <br />enforcement services within St. Joseph County. <br />The Interlocal Agreement is part of the legal requirement of IND. CODE §36 -8- 16.7 -47 <br />that every operator of a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) within an Indiana County enter <br />into an interlocal agreement with all other PSAP operators within that county to ensure that the <br />County does not contain more than the number of PSAPs authorized by Indiana law. Compliance <br />with this law must take place before December 31, 2014.
