PETITION TO RE -ZONE LAND <br />TO THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA: <br />The undersigned petitioner would represent and show <br />to the Honorable Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, <br />that said corporation is the legal owner of the following described <br />real estate situate in the City of South Bend, St. Joseph County, <br />State of Indiana, to -wit: <br />Beginning at the Northeast corner of the South <br />one -half (g) of the Southwest quarter (j) of <br />Section Thirty -five (35), Township Thirty -eight <br />(38) North, Range 2 East in St. Joseph County, <br />Indiana; thence South four hundred ninety -two <br />(492) feet; thence West one hundred seventy -six <br />(176) feet; thence south eight hundred thirty <br />(830) feet to the south line of said section; <br />thence east to the St. Joseph River; thence down <br />stream along the edge of the river to a point due <br />east of the point of beginning; thence west to the <br />place of beginning. <br />That all of said real estate prior to its purchase <br />by thepetitioner was used and occupied by a brick manufacturing <br />company long abandoned and was of industrial use. That your <br />petitioner owned and had title to said real estate, consisting <br />of approximately nineteen (19) acres, prior to the enactment and <br />passage of the original Zoning Ordinance of the City of South <br />Bend, Indiana, Ordinance Number 2331, adopted June 25, 1923. <br />That pursuant to said ordinance all of said real estate <br />was zoned "Q" Residential as to usage and "g" Height and Area as <br />to Height and Area District, excepting that the south Three Hun- <br />dred Twenty -two (322) feet of said real estate was zoned "D" <br />Light Industrial District under said Zoning Ordinance. <br />That it is necessary and expedient that petitioner ex- <br />pand its present operations and extend its buildings now located <br />on that parcel of land zoned "D" Light Industrial :District to <br />keep apace with its competition and more particularly to install <br />sliting machines in preparing its steel tubing for manufacture. <br />
