GF Fi <br />The attached proposed ordinance originated by the Common <br />Council to,annex to the City of.South Bend, Indiana the <br />property generally described as bounded on the north by <br />the east -west center section line of Sections 28 and 29 <br />T.38N., R.2E., and the Indiana Toll Road; on the east by <br />Portage Avenue and the present City Limits; on the south <br />by the present City Limits and Lincoln Way West and on <br />the west by Butternut Road containing approximately 1,544 <br />acres was legally advertised on February 20, 1961 and <br />given two public hearings under the dates of October 27, <br />1960 and March 2, 1961. In addition to the public hearings <br />two meetings were held between the Planning Commission's <br />Committee on Annexation and a committee of residents from <br />the proposed annexation area. The following action was <br />taken: <br />After due consideration the Commission found that <br />in their opinion: <br />1. The annexation is in the best interests of <br />the city and of the territory to be <br />annexed. <br />2. The area is urban in character, being an eco- <br />nomic and social part of the annexing city. <br />3. The city is financially able to provide muni- <br />cipal services to the annexed area within <br />the reasonably near future. <br />4. The area sought to be annexed is needed for <br />development of the city in the reasonably <br />near future. <br />
